The events industry is dynamic and rapidly growing global industry that requires both commercial and creative expertise. As the industry evolves, the importance of sustainability, responsible and ethical event management, and cultivating future event leaders cannot be overstated. If you aspire to enhance your management potential within the events sector while improving your transferable skills, this MA International Events Management is the ideal course for you.

In this programme you'll learn how to plan and deliver events with a strong emphasis on sustainable and critical practices. You'll gain an appreciation for the broader environmental, cultural, and political contexts in which events take place, positioning you to make informed and responsible decisions. Our modules also focus on relationship marketing, financial management, and managing culturally diverse teams, all of which are crucial for developing your skillset as a forward-thinking events professional.

Located in the heart of London, this programme includes a live event module, site visits, work experience, internship and placement opportunities to support students in putting theory into practice and gaining important professional development opportunities to enhance their CV and career opportunities. Full-time structure

Year 1

Students are required to study the following compulsory modules.

  • Innovative Technologies for Event Competitiveness (15 Credits)
  • Marketing for Event Professionals (15 Credits)

Students are required to choose 15 credits from:

  • Responsible Entrepreneurship for Events (15 Credits)
  • Leadership and Event Businesses (15 Credits)

Students are required to choose 45 credits from:

  • Events Dissertation (45 credits)
  • Internship and Consultancy Project (45 credits)

How you will learn

Teaching

In a typical week, learning takes place through a combination of lectures and seminars. You'll be able to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller group sessions. Contact hours may fall between 9am and 9pm, depending on your elective courses and tutorials.

Class sizes

The typical student intake per year is up to 20. Lectures are normally attended by 30-45, and seminars/tutorials by 15-30, based on our 2018 intake. This varies by module, particularly if they are shared between degrees.

Independent learning

Outside of timetabled sessions, you'll need to dedicate time to self-study to prepare for coursework, presentations and exams. Our Stockwell Street library and online resources will support your further reading and research.

You can also join a range of student societies, including the .

Overall workload

Your overall workload consists of contact hours (lectures, seminars, etc), independent learning, and assessments. For full-time students, the workload should be roughly equivalent to a full-time job. For part-time students, this will reduce in proportion with the number of modules you are studying.

Assessment

On this course, you will be assessed through coursework and a dissertation.

Feedback summary

We aim to provide feedback on assignments and to release examination results within 15 working days.

  • Resources: you may need to purchase books for your studies. Our Stockwell Street library also offers extensive books for loan, access to journals and digital resources.
  • Software: computers on campus have access to software which is paid for by the university. However, students may wish to purchase a personal copy of any particular software they wish to use off-site.
  • Memberships: applying for membership of a professional body may incur further costs. Details of application costs can be found on their websites.
  • Field trips: you may need to contribute towards any trips required for your course.

Graduates pursue opportunities in senior positions in a wide variety of roles connected with events and events management. This may include events management companies, PR firms, local authorities, performing arts companies, festivals, conference venues, theatres, hotels, sports venues or concert halls.

Academic skills and study support

Access study skills support through your tutor, our subject librarians, and our online academic skills centre.

Where appropriate, we provide support in academic English and mathematics. If you need support to use particular IT packages for a specific module, we provide training for this.

As a Business School student you will be able to enter our Enterprise Challenge, which rewards student entrepreneurship and innovation. Previous winners have received significant prize money to develop their business ideas.
